ข้อพระคัมภีร์: มัทธิว 2
1 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during
the time of King Herod, Magi[a] from the east came to Jerusalem
2 and asked, "Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star
in the east and have come to worship him."
3 When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
4 When he had called together all the people's chief priests and teachers of the
law, he asked them where the Christ was to be born.
5 "In Bethlehem in Judea," they replied, "for this is what the prophet has written:
6 " 'But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah, are by no means least among the rulers
of Judah; for out of you will come a ruler who will be the shepherd of my people
Israel.'"
7 Then Herod called the Magi secretly and found out from them the exact time the
star had appeared.
8 He sent them to Bethlehem and said, "Go and make a careful search for the child. As soon as you find him, report to me, so that I too may go and worship him."
9 After they had heard the king, they went on their way, and the star they had seen
in the east went ahead of them until it stopped over the place where the child was.
10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
11 On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed
down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with
gifts of gold and of incense and of myrrh.
12 And having been warned in a dream not to go back to Herod, they returned to their
country by another route.
13 When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get
up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until
I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him."
14 So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt,
15 where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord
had
said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son."
1 พระเยซูได้ทรงบังเกิดที่บ้านเบธเลเฮมแคว้นยูเดียในรัชกาลของกษัตริย์เฮโรดภายหลังมีพวกโหราจารย์จากทิศตะวันออกมายังกรุงเยรูซาเล็มถามว่า
2 กุมารผู้ที่บังเกิดมาเป็นกษัตริย์ของชนชาติยิวนั้นอยู่ที่ไหนเราได้เห็นดาวของท่านปรากฏขึ้นเราจึงมาหวังจะนมัสการท่าน
3 ครั้นกษัตริย์เฮโรดได้ยินดังนั้นแล้วก็วุ่นวายพระทัยทั้งชาวกรุงเยรูซาเล็มก็พลอยวุ่นวายใจไปด้วย
4 "แล้วท่านให้ประชุมบรรดามหาปุโรหิตกับพวกธรรมาจารย์ของประชาชนตรัสถามเขาว่าผู้เป็นพระคริสต์นั้นจะบังเกิดแห่งใด"
5 เขาทูลว่าที่บ้านเบธเลเฮมแคว้นยูเดียเพราะว่าผู้เผยพระวจนะได้เขียนไว้ดังนี้ว่า
6 บ้านเบธเลเฮมในแผ่นดินยูเดียจะเป็นบ้านเล็กน้อยที่สุดในสายตาของบรรดาผู้ครองแผ่นดินยูเดียก็หามิได้เพราะว่าเจ้านายคนหนึ่งจะออกมาจากท่านผู้ซึ่งจะครอบครองอิสราเอลชนชาติของเรา..
7 แล้วเฮโรดจึงเชิญพวกโหราจารย์เข้ามาเป็นการลับถามเขาได้ความถ้วนถี่ถึงเวลาที่ดาวนั้นได้ปรากฏขึ้น..
8 "แล้วท่านได้ให้พวกโหราจารย์ไปยังบ้านเบธเลเฮมสั่งว่าจงไปค้นหากุมารนั้นเถิดเมื่อพบแล้วจงกลับมาแจ้งแก่เราเพื่อเราจะได้ไปนมัสการท่านด้วย"
9 โหราจารย์เหล่านั้นจึงไปตามรับสั่งและดาวซึ่งเขาได้เห็นเมื่อปรากฏขึ้นนั้นก็ได้นำหน้าเขาไปจนมาหยุดอยู่เหนือสถานที่ที่กุมารอยู่นั้น
10 เมื่อพวกโหราจารย์ได้เห็นดาวนั้นแล้วก็มีความยินดียิ่งนัก
11 ครั้นเข้าไปในเรือนก็พบกุมารกับนางมารีย์มารดาจึงกราบถวายนมัสการกุมารนั้นแล้วเปิดหีบหยิบทรัพย์ของเขาออกมาถวายแก่กุมารเป็นเครื่องบรรณาการคือทองคำกำยานและมดยอบ..

12 แล้วพวกโหราจารย์ได้ยินคำเตือนในความฝันมิให้กลับไปเฝ้าเฮโรดเขาจึงกลับไปยังเมืองของตนทางอื่น
13 "ครั้นเขาไปแล้วก็มีทูตองค์หนึ่งของพระเป็นเจ้าได้มาปรากฏแก่โยเซฟในความฝันแล้วบอกว่าจงลุกขึ้นพากุมารกับมารดาหนีไปประเทศอียิปต์และคอยอยู่ที่นั่นจนกว่าเราจะบอกเจ้าเพราะว่าเฮโรดจะแสวงหากุมารเพื่อจะประหารชีวิตเสีย"
14 ในเวลากลางคืนโยเซฟจึงลุกขึ้นพากุมารกับมารดาไปยังประเทศอียิปต์
15 และได้อยู่ที่นั่นจนเฮโรดสิ้นพระชนม์ทั้งนี้เกิดขึ้นเพื่อจะให้สำเร็จตามพระวจนะของพระเป็นเจ้าซึ่งได้ตรัสไว้โดยผู้เผยพระวจนะว่าเราได้เรียกบุตรของเราให้ออกมาจากอียิปต์.
